Request for Lawyers' Assistance
The LACDL Lawyers Assistance & Defense Committee provides consultation and/or representation for member attorneys who are facing adverse action as a result of their representation of a client. LACDL is committed to protecting the ethical and legal representation of clients and may assist lawyers who are threatened with discipline either by the Disciplinary Counsel or courts for the ethical and proper assertion of the attorney-client privilege, disqualification of counsel issues, contempt of court, and subpoenas to lawyers seeking to obtain information protected by the attorney-client privilege.
REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE
The request for assistance must be in writing and should set forth the exact nature of the adverse action proposed to be taken by the Court or adversary, attaching all relevant pleadings necessary to evaluate the applicant's situation. The Lawyers' Assistance Committee will review and be in touch with you.
ELIGIBILITY FOR ASSISTANCE
The attorney seeking assistance should be a member of the LACDL. In some cases, the committee may consider assisting an attorney who is not a member at the time of the commencement of the adverse action but who joins LACDL during the course of the adverse action.
SCOPE OF REPRESENTATION
The scope of representation is limited to attorney members who need representation due to adverse action. By definition, the scope of this representation may be limited.
